Help us help Spencer!

Your generosity is needed to help repair the only home Spencer and his brothers have ever known.

At just 22 years old, Spencer became the head of household for his two brothers after their mother passed away unexpectedly.  â€‹Now he’s working full-time at Ruckus while trying to keep their home safe and livable.

Goal: Help us raise $23,000 to stabilize the home and prevent further damage.  And a full 55,000 to make the house a home that is safe, clean, and comfortable for Spencer and his family!

QUICK SUMMARY

Spencer is the youngest of three adopted brothers. After their mother passed away unexpectedly last year, Spencer stepped into the role of provider and caretaker for his family.  While working full-time as a chef at Ruckus Cafe, he now manages bills, appointments, and the daily needs of his brothers — including one who has special needs.  At the same time, the home their mother left behind now requires major repairs that Spencer cannot afford to handle alone.  This fundraiser is about helping stabilize the only home these brothers have ever known.

SPENCER’S STORY

If you’ve ever met Spencer at Ruckus Cafe, you already know who he is.  He’s steady on the line when the rush hits. He’s the first to jump in when someone else is overwhelmed. He shows up early, stays late, and never complains.

What many people don’t see is what he carries when he leaves the kitchen.

For most of their lives, the brothers’ mother was their advocate, their anchor, and the steady hand that kept everything together. She worked tirelessly to give them stability and a home that felt safe.

When she passed away, the grief was overwhelming. But alongside that grief came reality.

The house she left behind — the only home the brothers have ever known — has years of deferred maintenance. There is still a mortgage, and now the responsibility for everything has fallen on Spencer’s shoulders.

Spencer works full time while balancing bills, checking on his brothers’ needs, and trying to keep the household running.  But when he walks through the door at night, he comes home to a house that is deteriorating faster than he can afford to repair.

WHY THE REPAIRS ARE URGENT

These repairs are not cosmetic upgrades.

They are essential repairs that determine whether the home remains safe and livable.

Without immediate attention to the roof and exterior, the damage will continue to spread and the cost of repairs will increase dramatically.  Our goal is to complete the most critical repairs within the next 60 days to prevent further structural damage and stabilize the home.

CRITICAL REPAIRS NEEDED

The home currently requires several urgent repairs including:

• Roof repair to stop active leaking
• Siding repair to protect against weather exposure
• Replacement of a broken basement window affecting safety and insulation
• Drywall repair from past water intrusion
• Bathroom renovation to remain functional
• Replacement flooring to eliminate unsafe surfaces
• Electrical panel upgrades
• Hot water tank replacement

Each repair moves the house closer from fragile to secure.

FUNDRAISING GOAL

After reviewing contractor estimates and the scope of work, our initial goal is $23,000 to complete the most urgent repairs needed to stabilize the home.

The full scope of repairs is estimated to exceed $50,000, but addressing the highest-priority issues now will prevent significantly larger problems in the future.

Priority Repair Milestones

$11,500 — Replace leaking roof and install new downspouts
$10,500 — Repair siding and exterior protection
$1,800 — Basement window replacement
$900 — Hot water tank replacement
$1,800 — Electrical panel update

Additional repairs planned as funds allow:

$16,000 — Bathroom restoration and plumbing updates
$4,500 — Flooring replacement
$2,200 — Interior drywall repairs
$1,500 — Miscellaneous repairs (lighting, doors, etc.)

Every milestone moves this home closer to stability.

Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference.

All repairs will be closely managed by Daryl, owner of Ruckus Cafe, who has a construction background and will oversee estimates, budgeting, and contractor coordination.

This ensures all funds raised are used responsibly and directly toward stabilizing and repairing the home.

COMMUNITY MESSAGE

This fundraiser is not about charity.

It’s about community.

It’s about stepping in for someone who would never ask for help himself. It’s about giving three brothers stability and making sure responsibility doesn’t mean carrying everything alone.

Spencer has spent his life showing up for others — for his family, his coworkers, and this community.

Now we have the opportunity to show up for him.

CONTRIBUTE TODAY

If you are able to contribute, please consider donating today.

If you cannot give financially, simply sharing this fundraiser with others can make a real difference.

Together we can help give these three brothers stability, safety, and the chance to move forward.

From all of us at Ruckus — thank you for being part of this effort.
